Trump Faces Backlash From Supporters Over Epstein Case Handling

Former President Donald Trump is facing growing discontent among his conservative base over the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, with some prominent supporters openly distancing themselves from him.

Frustration erupted following a Justice Department memo released earlier this month declaring that no “client list” exists in the Epstein case and that no further disclosures would be made. Trump’s dismissive response to a reporter’s question about the memo during a recent press briefing has sparked backlash, even from long-time loyalists.

“I’m done,” wrote Trisha Hope, a former staunch Trump supporter, on social media. “His lack of concern for the Epstein victims and his callous response ends my relationship with him.” Her remarks have echoed across Trump-aligned circles, where Epstein-related conspiracy theories had previously been fueled by expectations that Trump would expose powerful figures linked to the convicted sex offender.

Adding fuel to the fire, billionaire entrepreneur and Trump ally Elon Musk questioned Trump’s inaction, posting: “How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won’t release the Epstein files?”

Critics argue that Trump, once vocal about exposing government corruption, is now appearing to shield key figures within his administration. Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Deputy Director Dan Bongino—once praised within MAGA ranks—are now under pressure over their roles in shelving further disclosures.

In response to the criticism, Patel insisted, “The conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been,” and rejected speculation that he would resign. Bondi, who previously claimed to have reviewed a list of Epstein’s clients, has so far not commented on the memo’s contradiction of her earlier statements.

Conservative media figure Megyn Kelly publicly questioned Trump’s credibility, posting that the situation leaves only two options: either there’s nothing left to disclose, or a cover-up is underway. “Either way, it’s damaging,” she said.

Trump, meanwhile, doubled down in a lengthy post on Truth Social. Praising Bondi’s leadership, he wrote: “We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening… LET PAM BONDI DO HER JOB — SHE’S GREAT!” He dismissed the Epstein controversy as a distraction manufactured by political enemies, adding, “We are saving our Country and MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN… not wasting time on Jeffrey Epstein.”

But his message failed to quell the unrest. Thousands of supporters responded with skepticism and disappointment, demanding transparency and reiterating past promises Trump had made regarding the release of Epstein-related documents.

Amid mounting pressure, voices within Trump’s own camp are calling for action. Steve Bannon suggested a special counsel should take over the Epstein case, while right-wing activist Jack Posobiec demanded full investigation and accountability. “We will not rest until every person on that client list is exposed,” he declared.

Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna announced plans to introduce an amendment to force a congressional vote demanding full public release of the Epstein files. House Republicans, including Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, also signaled support for continued inquiry.

Political analysts warn the controversy could damage Trump’s 2026 electoral prospects. “The Epstein files have become a political virus that Trump’s own movement created,” wrote Republican strategist Mike Madrid. “Now it’s spreading beyond his ability to contain it.”
