Armed Man Shot by Secret Service Near White House

An armed man was shot by U.S. Secret Service agents early Sunday morning near the White House after a confrontation. The incident, which occurred around midnight, took place about a block from the White House, but no other individuals were injured, according to a statement from the Secret Service.

At the time of the shooting, President Donald Trump was in Florida, and the incident did not pose a threat to his safety. The Secret Service had been alerted by local police to a “suicidal individual” believed to be traveling from Indiana. Authorities later located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect near the White House, and they identified a person matching his description in the area.

When law enforcement officers approached the man, he allegedly drew a firearm, prompting an armed confrontation. During the encounter, shots were fired by the Secret Service agents. The suspect was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, although his condition remains unknown, according to the Secret Service.

Because the shooting involved law enforcement officers, the Metropolitan Police Department will lead the investigation. As of Sunday, there was no immediate response to inquiries from the police department regarding the incident.

This shooting marks another high-profile incident near the White House, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the area. The investigation is still in its early stages, and further details are expected to be released in the coming days.
