Sharjah Police Foil Major Drug Smuggling Attempt Concealed in Marble Stones

Sharjah, UAE — In a significant crackdown, Sharjah Police have successfully dismantled a drug-smuggling operation that involved concealing narcotics inside marble stones. The operation, dubbed ‘The Destructive Stone,’ led to the arrest of three individuals of Asian nationalities who were allegedly directed by international drug dealers.

The gang had planned to smuggle more than 226 kilograms of hashish, psychotropic substances, and other narcotic drugs into the UAE, intending to distribute them within the country. The sophisticated smuggling method involved hiding the illegal substances within marble slabs, which were shipped to the UAE’s ports in an attempt to evade law enforcement scrutiny.

Colonel Majid Sultan Al-Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Sharjah Police, disclosed that the department had received intelligence regarding the gang’s activities. The information suggested that the group was part of a larger network managed by drug dealers operating outside the UAE. In response, the Anti-Narcotics Department initiated a series of field operations aimed at tracking the gang members, monitoring their activities, and uncovering their connections to broader regional and international drug smuggling networks.

Through meticulous surveillance and strategic operations, Sharjah Police were able to intercept the shipment, apprehending the suspects and preventing the drugs from reaching the streets. The arrest and seizure were hailed as a significant victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.

Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, lauded the efforts of the police teams involved in thwarting the smuggling attempt. He emphasized the importance of preemptive actions in maintaining the security and stability of society and praised the readiness of Sharjah Police’s personnel and technology in combating such threats.

“Sharjah Police remain committed to reinforcing our strong security measures through effective preemptive strikes against drug smugglers, promoters, and dealers. Our vigilance and readiness are key to ensuring the safety of our community,” Major General bin Amer stated.

The Sharjah Police General Command also urged the public, including both citizens and residents, to remain vigilant and resist external temptations. They called for enhanced cooperation between the community and law enforcement agencies, encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities via the hotline 8004654 or by emailing dea@shjpolice.gov.ae.

This operation underscores Sharjah Police’s ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting the security and well-being of the UAE.
